Starting a charity is not easy. It’s hard to find funding, it can be difficult to manage volunteers and other staff members, and you have to deal with a lot of red tape when it comes to the government. But if you want to make a difference in your community or help people who are less fortunate than yourself, starting your own charity might be the thing for you. We’ll cover 5 ways you can successfully start a charity from scratch

1) Be Passionate

Do you have a real desire to help people or make the world a better place? If so, your heart must be in the right place. You will find that over time working on your charity can be very rewarding and extremely tiring, depending on what resources and volunteers you need for each particular project. Don’t get into this thinking it’ll be a fun job because if you don’t have the passion for starting with, then your efforts will not go far.

2) Pick a Small Project

Don’t try to take on the whole world. There are too many people and not enough resources out there for you to accomplish everything in one go, so focus your efforts on something that can be accomplished relatively quickly with just a few volunteers or staff members helping you out. Once this has been completed successfully, then it’s easy to move on to the next project.

3) Make a Plan

Do you know how much money it will cost to start your charity? Where are these funds going to come from? What steps do you need to take to get off the ground and become something bigger than yourself for this project or organization? These questions must be asked before starting because you won’t end up anywhere if you don’t have any plan in place.

4) Tell People

Once you have a plan and all the necessary documents in place, it’s time to tell people. If your heart is truly in this project, it will be easy for you to convince others why they should help out. Recruit volunteers through social media or ask friends and family if they know anyone who would like to volunteer with you. Also, consider asking local businesses to help out with either funding or resources if they too believe in what you are trying to accomplish.

5) Get to Work

Now that you have everything in place, it’s time to start working on your project or organization. You will need an official launch party which is the perfect opportunity for others to see what you’re all about and how they can help out too. Be sure to involve as many people as possible at this event so that more eyes are on you and your work.
